For the remainder of April, my Blogging from A to Z April Challenge posts will include: (1) the font/prompt info, (2) the backstory or story idea and/or backstory inspired by the chosen font, and (3) any supplemental creative fodder (e.g., notes, character sketches, perspective lines, images) I chose to share.

Believe it or not, I didn’t really like the font options for the letter “Y.” I ended up going with today’s choice because it was the only one that resonated even a little. At first, I had a fleeting idea of a story where a hostess accidently sends a party invitation to the last person in the world she’d want to attend, and her having to deal with awkwardness when said person arrives, invitation in hand. Then after sitting with the idea, I tweaked things a bit.

The idea below relates the tale of a wedding planner who purposely neglects to inform her twin brother’s best man of her brother’s upcoming nuptials in order to avoid confronting a messy emotional situation from her past.

(As for the inspiration behind the Spanish wedding destination of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa, instead of Hawaii…well I’ve never been to Hawaii, but I have been to the Canary Islands. It’s always easier to write what you know or at least visited first-hand.)

For Day 29, I chose the font You’re Invited by Mario Arturo as my prompt and inspiration for today’s flash fiction.
