A Short Story for “M” and the Font “Mantiqua Blaxx” (#AtoZChallenge)

Today’s Blogging from A to Z April Challenge short story relates the tale of Mantiqua Blaxx, an avenging badass who’s not afraid to go to hell and back to vanquish the fallen angel who took her life.

For Day 15, I chose the font Mantiqua Blaxx by Manfred Klein as my prompt for today’s story.

Mantiqua Blaxx

Hell had no fury like Mantiqua Blaxx; the day she entered looking for Diego Apollysar every demon in the realm knew it. The daughter of a pagan priestess and a fallen angel, Mani wasn’t one to be trifled with…in life or in death. That was something Lucifer’s minions forgot to report to him when he’d targeted her for destruction at the hands of his right-hand lieutenant, Diego.

To get the upper-hand, she’d forsaken heaven and requested to be sent directly to Abaddon. No soul, let alone a sanctified one, had ever demanded to be sent to hell. Yet, by doing so, she had a chance to vanquish the serial Lothario who’d ended her mortal life and that of who knew how many others.

“Let me pass,” the six-foot tall, leather-clad amazon demanded of the demons posted at the entrance of the death realm known as Abaddon. That was also the name of the exclusive nightclub visible to the humans from their realm

“And you are?”

“The angry black woman who’s here to vanquish Diego Apollysar.”

“Do you have an appointment,” the demon laughed, his guise of an enormous bouncer.

“I’m sure he’s expecting me.”

“To be sure, but not this soon. Let her pass, Oberon,” came the deep voice that emerged from the club’s interior. Mani’s hands tightened into fists at the sound of killer’s voice. She all but forgot the lesser demons as she found herself staring into the beautiful green eyes of the man she thought once to love. “She’s as powerless as a newborn babe…and just as defenseless. Aren’t you, Mani?”

On seeing him, the tension in her body melted in the same way it always had when she was alive. As was the case with many of fallen angels, Diego was over six-feet of olive skin, lean muscle and sinful good looks. He was sex personified…and the truest definition of a lady killer. Even dead, her body responded to him as it had in the days when they were lovers. “Come give me a kiss and find out.”

“I am ever so tempted,” he said, taking in her leather ensemble of skin-tight leather pants and midriff-baring halter. “But, alas, rules are rules. Until the day that hell freezes over, you and I will have to merely reminisce about how great we were together.”

“Diego,” I purred, “You and I have quite a bit of unfinished business. We’re gonna do more than reminisce tonight.” Using the magic learned at the knee of her mother, Mani conjured the soul-sword that materialized into her hands. “I plan on giving you a night you will never forget. I hope you dressed for cold weather,” she smirked, then attacked.
